Professor Andrew Mearns Spragg is co-founder and CEO of the med-tech company Jellagen Pty Ltd producing next generation collagen biomaterials derived from jellyfish. Prof Spragg gained a first-class honors degree in microbiology and a PhD in marine biotechnology from Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh. For the past 16 years his career has focused on the creation of companies involved with the commercial exploitation of marine based science and technologies. Prof Spragg has successfully raised over £12.5M in equity finance and has secured competitive grant funding from EU and UK sources worth >£2M. He was the recipient of the 2007 Gannochy Prize and Medal from the Royal Society of Edinburgh and his entrepreneurial achievements were further recognised through winning the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the year 2008 in Health Care for Scotland.
